Una pequeña startup mexicana libró una batalla con el gobierno para poder operar en el país. La empresa trabaja con geoingeniería solar, técnico que tiene como objetivo reflejar los rayos calientes del sol y enfriar todo lo que está debajo. Sin embargo, preguntas ambiental hacer este proceso un poco complicado.
LA La tecnologia de una empresa llamada Make Sunsets utiliza globos para enviar partículas de dióxido de azufre a la estratosfera para reflejar la luz solar. El experimento llamó la atención de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales de México, a la que no le gustó la idea.

Con esta decisión, la startup abandonó todos los proyectos solares y de geoingeniería en el país. Esta es solo una de las muchas controversias provocadas por la inyección de productos químicos en la estratosfera.

La técnica saltó a la fama el año pasado cuando se vio como una forma de abordar el cambio climático. Sin embargo, los funcionarios ambientales dicen que esta puede ser una forma equivocada de tratar de corregir la trayectoria del clima.
Uno de los principales problemas, y destacados que utiliza el gobierno mexicano, es que la actuación de la tecnología puede traspasar las fronteras del país, lo que puede generar problemas con los vecinos.
Make Sunsets, en su plan de geoingeniería solar, solo logró lanzar el año pasado dos globos, cada uno con solo diez gramos de dióxido de azufre, una cantidad insignificante.
En Estados Unidos, vecino de México, la Casa Blanca ha anunciado un plan de cinco años para desarrollar la geoingeniería solar. Sin embargo, según el anuncio, este proceso debe hacerse lentamente y con cuidado.
